Vocabulary: words
explained
(in words and pictures).
Rr
radiate, radiating: a line drawn from the middle of a circle to its edge is called a
radius.  Light is sometimes drawn or painted (usually in cartoons) as 'rays' or lines
which spread out from a lamp or the sun.  We do not usually see it that way.  The
spokes of a bicycle wheel radiate from the hub at the middle of the wheel.
In this drawing for the letter 'W' eight spokes radiate from the centre
of the wooden wagon wheel.
realistic:  like the real thing.  Something may look realistic - look like the real thing,
feel realistic - feel like the real thing, sound realistic - sound like the real thing.  Lots of
little boys think they can make realistic sounds of motor car engines, guns firing,
explosions and other things.  Do they sound 'realistic' to you?  Like the real thing?
rectangle, rectangular:
shaped like one side of a shoe box.  A
shape with four edges or sides, a 90
degree right angle in each corner:
simple rectangles.
round: circles are round, most coins are round, but spheres (tennis balls, base
balls, globes) are round (or rounded) too.
